According to a study by Northwestern University, at the inception of life a spark results. Some believe it is simply a chemical reaction caused by the instantaneous release of zinc atoms coming into contact with calcium. Others, like me – see it as proof that life does not come from nothing. Whatever you believe – I submit that a spark of sorts can occur when the goals of a Company, and those of an Employee intersect.
A Company’s goal should be to seek, hire, grow, and retain the best talent. Employees seek good wages and benefits, a place to be respected for what they do, and for a sense of security. When those two goals meet that is when the employee/employer “spark” results. Cultivated, that spark grows into something greater than the sum of its parts.
To cultivate that spark in business, a solid Human Resources plan is required. To get there, from the outset I submit the goal should be to hire the right people, and then inspire and motivate them. To supplement your plan, here are two elements to consider:
- An Annual Employee Relation Plan – well-thought out, and kept fresh.
- A Coaching, Counseling and Corrective Action system that embraces understanding of expectations between employee and manager. It highlights respect for precedence and underscores consistent application of the law. It seeks to remove doubt from the equation.
KeystoneHR carries both of these plans, and their use would have the positive affect of lifting the burden too many have from a lack of job security. With that weight removed, employees are free to provide their best, to grow with the company, and contribute more value than could possibly be envisioned by a lesser employer.
