How to expertly write HR policies in only seven bullet points

Experiencing leadership positions within a number of diverse Fortune 500 and upper-tier PE backed operations, I developed a number of unique skill sets.  One of these is the ability to effectively write and modify policies.  Historically, what I write reveals a clear purpose, does not create confusion with respect to other policies, avoids unnecessary re-writes from legal, and stands the test of time.

Follow the seven steps below and can create documents that will help build your brand:     

  1. Are other company’s policies available for comparison?
  2. How will a revision or new document affect existing, related policies?
  3. Are there precedents to be considered?
  4. How about company culture?
  5. Will your final product stand up to legal review and the test of time?
  6. Key stakeholder input received?
  7. Respect your First-Line Supervisors – distribute to them prior to employees.
